AN EPIC BATTLE IS MOUNTING BETWEEN MAN AND MICROBE. CAN YOU DEFEND YOUR CITY AGAINST TB?
Meet Dr. Connie Elecktra-Phoresis, the health commissioner of Micropolis. This city's promising future is threatened by a growing number of tuberculosis cases. Dr. Elecktra-Phoresis needs your knowledge of TB to help her fight this lethal germ!
HERE ARE SOME STATISTICS ABOUT THE EPIDEMIC
- There are 3,811 people with active and possibly contagious TB. They are sick.
- Eighty percent, 3,048 people, have typical TB.
- Twenty percent, 762 people, have MDR TB (multidrug-resistant TB), the kind that does not respond to typical TB drugs like isoniazid, ethambutol, rifampin and streptomycin. They will require newer and more costly drugs.
- Forty percent, 1,524 people, also have an HIV infection. They will need extra care and costly drugs.
